In September 2004, we moved from the city to twenty-six acres in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. Three children, two adults, a cat, and a few dogs embarked on a new world of "micro" farm living. We were really relocating to be closer to our children’s riding school and to have room for their horses, but as with all things the children moved on to other interests, and we were left with empty pastures. Inspired by the remarkable but short documentary FOOD INC. we took a new path of homesteading in early 2010. We decided early on in our journey that we wanted to maintain a wholesome and rewarding life. To achieve this, we choose to only make products that are 100% pure, natural and chemical free.
The name of the farm ( MARDELIAN ) is derived from our children’s names: Margaux, Delaney, and Ian. The kids have been our testers, critics, supporters, workers, and above all, our biggest cheerleaders. Our farm, though not an antique structure, is steeped in history. We purchased the land at the time from the last living son of a Confederate soldier. We have been told that our land, so close to Stony Creek's moving water most likely would have been an encampment during the Civil War, the perfect spot for a regiment of solders. Dinwiddie County Virginia is rich with our nations history, and we plan to claim at least a tiny part.
As fate would have it we decided to get a few dairy goats to help with brush control, and provide milk for our family. An attempt to make our own goats' milk soap lead into exploring even more skincare ideas, and the next thing we knew we had the "perfect lotion". Our Mardelian Farm Goats' Milk Lotion is enjoyed by many and a silky-smooth, light, and extremely moisturizing blend of wholesome goodness.
Now the flagship of our offerings, Mardelian Farm Milk Lotion has lead us to develop many skincare products. You can learn more about them here on our site under SKINCARE in the menu above.
As you look at our products you will also notice that even our packaging are just as close to nature. We strive to eliminate as much plastics and non-reusable materials as possible. Our goal with packaging is to use containers that will have other usefulness. Reuse our packaging, give it back to us, or pass it on.
